When a person’s blood sugar drops they can be irritable and in some cases downright mean. It sounds like he may need to eat more frequent small meals to keep his blood sugar more level while avoiding any candy, sodas or other high sugar content foods that can cause highs and then lows.
Sometimes people without diabets get cranky when their blood sugar drops too.
Hope that helps! = )

How To Handle Anger During Low Blood Sugars

Overview
Emotions and blood sugars are a two way street. Understanding their relationship can help in your blood sugar control. The brain controls the secretion of various stress hormones that can interfere with insulin’s effectiveness. On the other hand, when high or low levels of sugar reach the brain, the result may be impaired memory, anger, irritability, slowed thinking, or depression. As blood sugars rise, the levels of hormones that prevent depression may be lowered. This can worsen symptoms of depression and leave a person with less interest in doing the things needed to improve control, such as thoughtful selection of food, regular exercise, and rest. A vicious cycle of growing depression and worsening control can arise.
It helps in this altered situation for others to recognize as early as possible that a low blood sugar is taking place so that it may be treated quickly. People vary in how they experience a low blood sugar and how one individual may act during a particular low blood sugar can also vary tremendously. Here are common symptoms that indicate a low blood sugar is underway.
Symptoms of Low Blood Sugars
sweating
shaking
irritability
blurred vision
fast heart rate
sudden tiredness
dizziness and confusion
numbness of the lips
nausea or vomiting
frequent sighing
headache
silliness
tingling

My mom is diabetic and my mom thinks that i´m pre-diabetic. When either of us get hungry or haven´t eaten in a while we get cranky, and irritable. I have to carry around a baggy of crackers in my purse at all times so that if i do get hungry it doesn´t get to the point where i haul off and hit someone. I´m pretty sure it´s normal, You should start carrying around some crackers or low sugar granola bars so that when he starts to get cranky you can feed him.

Im a type 1 diabetic too! And when my blood sugar gets low i get mad. Im mad at myself for not being able to count my carbs the way im supposed to so i take too much insulin. Its super irritating… also when my blood sugar goes low i feel HORRIBLE! My chest feels like it collpased and its hard 2 breathe and im dizzy and tired and feel sick to my stomach and when you dont feel good you get angry and frustrated easy and another really annoying thing is to have people breathing down my neck i know what im supposed to do and how to do it and i hate it when people get too conserned. Just give him space and try to understand that he’s feeling awful at that point. I know its hard because you wanna help him but he probably knows what he’s doing.

Are you sure it’s his blood sugar level? Do you see his blood glucose number when he’s mean? If this happens often, he may just be mean and is using diabetes as an excuse. Typically diabetics are dizzy when they are low and may even look/act drunk if very low. If he is low often then he needs to work with his endocrinologist to work out his insulin dosage.

One common side effect of hypoglycemia is rage, anger, or irritability. Even non-diabetics get this way when their blood sugar is low.
