My dear darling 82 year old aunt has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. She knows that she is supposed to stay off of sugary food, but when the dietitian tried to coucil her about what food groups to eat at which meals, she could not understand it. Is their a simple easy formula that I could explain to her. If it gets complicated at all, she just gets lost.
Get her a copy of the South Beach Diet. I recommend it a lot for my patients. It is so simple to use. She can lose weight on it too, but the main thing is that it is a very healthy diet for diabetics. Skip Phase one and start with Phase 2. You can get it at any book store in paper back or hard back.

Call her dietitian and ask if you can pick up some sample menus for her…and some recipes, too! Also contact the American Diabetes Foundation. They will have information too! Good luck! kjl

Watch/limit her carbs (breads, pasta – anything with flour, rice, corn), no sugar, limit fruit (bananas are good), fruit juices (none with added sugar) even limit her fiber as these are also hi in carbohydrates. She should eat hi-protein foods, no sodas (even diet). Drink lots of water and cranberry juice. Walk with her when she feels able, even if it is not too far.

Type 2 diabetes is primarily caused by hydrogenated oils… I’d look into that. They’ve been banned from many European Countries, but the food industry has been able to bribe the Government to keep them on the shelves in North America. (They’re used as a preservative.) VERY bad for us…

John, I don’t know where you live but, in the states we have something called; Meals on Wheels. There are many other programs that bring meals to the elderly. They are suited to the diet of the individual needs. This may be a solution to your problem. They bring three square meals a day. Maybe you could check into something like this, where you live. Ask the dietitian for some suggestions.

She can eat just about anything that isn’t extremely high in carbs, as long as it doesn’t contain sugar. My doctor and dietition said no more than 5 carbs ( 75g ) per meal, which is doable, and no more than 15 ( 825g ) carbs per day (1 carb = 15g) . Eat normal portions, and starchy fruits and veggies should be avoided. Fruit is okay, but in limited amounts. Limit breads, pastas, corn, potatoes, etc., and she should be fine. It does get confusing, but all you really have to do is look at food labels. They tell you all you need to know! Hope this helps!

Hmm, she is 82 years old, and she could not understand the risk factors. In this case it’s best way is………. don’t explain any thing to her. give her saccharin instead of sugar. and cut her glucose level in her meal. for this type of old patient’s diaetic diet you can visit this site

Hi, Truthseeker:
A researcher in the U.S. (Denver, Co.) fed athletics a pound of sugar a day and couldn’t raise their blood sugar. Then he increased their intake of oil to 30% of total calories–a substantial number had raised sugar levels.
The moral, oil molecules are larger than glucose, and block a cell’s receptor site. So the first thing your aunt need is a low fat diet and with reduced sugar intake, that will help her to loose weight which is one cause of diabetes.
Blessings, Ben Yeshua
