Since I was young I have been interested in wilderness survival, unfortunately my diagnoses of type 1 diabetes has somewhat limited my capacity for such activities because of my reliance on the production methods in society. I want to know of any known remedy or diet that could possibly be used to control ketosis and high blood sugar in the hopes of experimentation and research to help me achieve the required level of self sufficiency and also to help others like me.
No, it is impossible for a type 1 person to survive without insulin injections.
However I see no reason why you cannot do a wilderness survival camp thing. All you need is sufficient supplies.
You can eat a very low carb food plan and take less bolus insulin. But then again, most of us would be much better off not eating all those grains and cereals and starchy veggies and soft sweet fruits all the time.
Meats and salads are the most that are necessary for survival. Salads can be any green food plant you can eat. Meats don’t have to be Haut Cuisine either. Nuts, seeds and berries are plentiful and not harmful to your glucose control either.
Don’t try to do it without sufficient supply of insulins tho. That and the necessary testing equipment are an absolute must. And have some way of contacting the modern world for medical rescue are all I know of that you absolutely need.

Hi,
It is possible to change your diet to one that is less medications, yet you will still need it for the rest of your life.
That will not stop you from hiking in the woods for weeks at a time, you just need to have the right food with you, and extra diabetic supplies for your trip.
I suggest that you read these two books, and try to reduce your medication levels through this diet plan.
Dr. Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes.
The PH Miracle for diabetes.
Both diet plans work for type 1 & 2. After controlling your blood sugars, it is possible to start reducing medication levels. Yet you will never be completely off medications, and will always need to check your sugar levels several times a day.
Good Luck!

You must have insulin. Without it, your cells will starve for glucose… it’s absolutely essential for life, and there are no substitutes.

Not for long. Blood sugar will rise in the absence of food, because of your body releasing stored sugar. And DKA will follow, swiftly if you don’t have any insulin.
But if you have insulin, you can go anywhere and do anything. And you don’t really have to worry about refrigeration. It helps the insulin stay good longer, but so long as the ambient temperature is not too hot or below freezing you can just cary your month or two month or three month supply in your bag. I find I have a lot more flexibility with using a pump… you might want to look into one as well.

Unfortunately no.
3 days is your limit.
After that, we’re dead.
Really sucks, but biologically it’s just fact.
